B268 Golden-headed Cisticola

Find it in long grasses and reeds.

Description:

The Golden-headed Cisticola gets it name from the golden-orange head the male has during mating season. When he calls his orange head is crested when calling. His chin and throat is paler and his body is golden with boldly streaked black to dark grey wings. Non-breeding males and females are similar with buff-brown upper parts, heavily streaked black and dark brown, with a golden-buff rump and nape of neck. The underparts are cream with buff tints, the wings are black. Juveniles resemble the female but are duller.

My Sightings:

I first found this little bird among the long grasses and reeds near where I was staying in Bundamba in August 2020. It seemed like just a little brown bird in the grass. But on closer look from the photos, saw how beautiful this tiny bird is.

I am always on the lookout for it now when I am near long grass.
