B262 Welcome Swallow

See them swooping and gliding in most habitats.

Description:

The Welcome Swallow is the most widespread swallow in Australia and can be seen swooping and gliding in search of flying insects in almost any habitat, whether it be in the city buildings, farmland paddocks, forests or wetlands. The name comes from sailors who knew that when they saw a swallow it meant they were close to land.

Swallows will often build their mud nests beneath bridges and on the walls of buildings.

My Sightings:

The Welcome Swallow is not hard to spot as they can be found almost anywhere. However, because they are constantly flying, I find it hard to get a good photo. But when they build their nests on a building, it is easy to capture their young ones. I have had two photo opportunities with baby swallows.
