B080 Straw-necked Ibis
Found on freshwater wetlands and loves the farm.
Description:
A large water bird. The Straw-necked Ibis is not the most handsome of birds, with its naked black head, and long downcurved black bill. However, when the sun shines on its glossy blue-black back, you can see a metallic purple, green and bronze sheen. Its neck and underparts are white.
It likes to eat grassland insects such as grasshoppers and locusts, so often seen around farms and has earned the name of Farmer’s Friend.
My Sightings:
I have seen the Straw-necked Ibis in rural areas of South Queensland and Northern Tablelands of NSW.
