Identity Crisis in the Finch Family

Chestnut-breasted Mannikin hangs out with a residential flock of Double-barred Finches. (Kalbar, Qld – July 2021)
There are plenty of these delightful Double-barred Finches in the backyard, and love to hang out in the chook pen.

But I was excited early this week when I spotted these Chestnut-breasted Mannikin finches in the front yard..
And a couple of days later, I found a flock on my walk to the creek, and noticed that some Double-bars were among them.
The next day, when I was out near the chook pen, I heard this different twitter, and noticed a flock of these chestnuts there, but by the time I ran inside to get my camera, they were gone. Then thought I should really put some seed in the bird feeder and see what I can capture…. Here it is crowded with double-bars…
Next thing I look and see who is with the double-bars! The Chestnut-breasted Mannikin… It looks a bit bigger than the others… Double-barred finches with one Chestnut-breasted Mannikin finch in the feeder…
A Week Later… Identity Crisis!
This morning I looked out the window and spotted the resident flock of Double-barred Finches around the feeder.
There were more in a bush beside it and then I spotted the little Chestnut again. He joins in with the other finches.
I am wondering if this finch knows where he belongs?
